April Meeting Diversity Events and Undergraduate Opportunities

April 13, 2018 | Leah Poffenberger

The 2018 APS April Meeting will feature research on a wide range of topics, from “Quarks to the Cosmos.” However, the only thing more diverse than the research is the physics community itself.

Several diversity events are scheduled for this year’s April Meeting including professional development sessions for women in physics; a reception for members of the National Society of Black Physicists and the National Society of Hispanic Physicists; and a roundtable discussion on improving the climate in physics for LGBT+ physicists. The APS Forum on Education, the APS Committee on Minorities and the APS Committee on the Status of Women in Physics will also be hosting an education and diversity reception on Sunday, April 15.

Undergraduate students attending the April Meeting can take advantage of Future of Physics Days, sponsored by APS and the Society for Physics Students. Future of Physics Days events include an informative lunch with grad students, a career workshop, and a session careers outside of academia.
