If you have an interest in strengthening the future of the physics community, then we invite you to join the American Physical Society’s (APS) Legacy Circle. The APS Legacy Circle acknowledges forward-thinking members and friends who reinforce the Society’s mission through financial and estate planning. Your generous gift will help fund initiatives that make a positive impact in the lives of researchers, educators, students, and the general public.

  • Acknowledgment in both the APS Annual Report and APS Legacy Circle list of honorees

  • Ability to specify how your donation will be allocated within APS

  • Significant tax breaks and deductions in accordance with the Internal Revenue Code and regulations

  • Deferral of gift until after your lifetime, depending on type of gift


Already Planning to Give to APS?

You may choose a specific campaign or program, or donate to the Unrestricted Fund to help initiatives where the need is greatest. In all cases, these gifts are carefully managed by APS.

APS Legacy Circle Honorees

The APS Legacy Circle recognizes donors who support the Society’s mission through planned giving. By including APS in their estate plans, these forward-thinking individuals create an enduring legacy that will benefit researchers, educators, students, and the general public.

How to Join

Donors who support the Society through planned giving are invited to join the APS Legacy Circle. Legacy Circle membership is our way of acknowledging your generous support for the benefit of generations of scientists.

Estate commitments include naming APS as a beneficiary of your:

  • Will

  • Retirement Plan (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), etc.)

  • Living Trust

  • Life Insurance Policy

  • Charitable Gift Annuity

  • Charitable Remainder Trust

  • Pooled Income Fund

  • Charitable Lead Fund

  • Real Estate with Retained Life Estate

  • Any other arrangement that benefits APS in the future

“I, (name), have named APS in my will. Upon my death, I will give, devise, and bequeath (percentage) of my estate or (fixed dollar amount) to benefit the American Physical Society (APS), a 501(c)(3) qualified nonprofit organization located in and existing under the laws of the District of Columbia, and with principal business address of One Physics Ellipse, College Park, MD 20740-3844. Tax Identification Number: (EIN 13-1656610). I would like my gift to be treated as an endowment, whereby the earnings will be used to support the operations and programs of APS, including but not limited to Research Dissemination, Membership and Meetings, Education and Diversity, Outreach, Public Affairs, and International Affairs.”

Unrestricted Quasi-endowment

"I, (name), have named APS in my will.
